Sascha (Sade L. Frayer) received a B.A. from Cleveland State's First College in Production and Performance, with a minor in dance and movement. Part of her major involved independent study in performance art under the instruction of Wayne Turney, and research into the Japanese art of Butoh. She first performed as a living statue when hired to appear at a private, New Orleans-themed party in Akron, and discovered a natural aptitude which she has developed over the past several years.
She received further movement training as a member of The Subliminals blacklight performance art troupe, with whom she appeared at the first-ever Performance Art Festival at Cleveland Public Theater in the late 1980s. During her time with the Subliminals, she undertook further studies with mime artist Steven Chipps, an in-depth puppetry workshop with nationally-known performer Paul Zaloom, and briefly appeared with the Nova Lizard Performance Art collective.
In the 1990s she was a member of the world-folk duo Dragonfly Reel and magic/sideshow act Carnival Xaotika. They performed at libraries, nursing homes, music festivals, and Renaissance-style Faires, travelling through Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Michigan. It was while a member of Xaotika that she learned how to glasswalk, from Philomena of the Bindlestiff Family Circus. During this time she also began studying Middle Eastern dance, and was a member of YaShara's Rising Stars bellydance troupe for a year.
After a hiatus spent caring for an ill family member, she returned to performing and organizing events in the summer of 2005. She became a troupe member at convergence-continuum theater where she has stage managed, costumed, designed sound, and appeared as performer or pre-show entertainment in several productions ("A Murder of Crows", "Freakshow", "Say You Love Satan" "Kid Simple"). She has since costumed a number of plays for convergence, as well as "Othello" and "Love's Labours Lost" for the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival and wardrobe assistance for the independent film "Won't Be Forgotten". She has provided the sound design for "Valparaiso" and "The Miracle at Naples" at convergence and "Heddatron" for the Theater Ninjas. If that isn't enough, she has also run lights for local pirate rockers Morticia's Chair and for Project R and the Metric Singularity Show at the Center for Rock Research - in addition to her day job.
